Characters
Takaki this character is core of the whole story. Because of his parents' jobs, he transfered to different school often since he was a child. He and Akari met each other in the elementary school and became close friends, but when Akari moved away, they went to different junior high. Then they found out both them have feeling for each other, but with time passed by, they never met each other. When they grown up, Akari already has her new life but Takani still can't love other girl except for Akari and he can't forget about her.
A transfer student to Takaki's elementary sch
ool. Since Akari and Takaki they have same interest, they soon became close friend.
At 1992, she promised Takaki to watch cherry blossom together next year. Yet, because of her father's job, she went to different junior school with Takaki.
When they were stuied in junior high school, Akari and Takaki arrange to meet each other at the station. That day, they confirmed their feelings and promised that even in different places they would continue miss each other. Yet, since that day, Akari and Takaki never met. Akari also moved on to her new life.
Takaki's classmate in high school. Kanae is a girl who loves surfing. She has been in love with Takaki for long time since they were attending the same school, but she can't tell her feelings to him. In the third grades of high school, when she knew Takaki was going study college at Tokyo, she decided to tell him her feeling.
Plots
The story divide into threes segments, each segment tell audience about love in different ages, also different patterns and attitudes of love.
✿First Segment- Cherry Blossom
This part describe how Takaki and Akari met. When Akari transfered to a Tokyo's elementary school. She met Takaki. Both them have same interest, so they soon became became best friend. When graduation came, they promised each other to go back to school to watch Cherry Blossom together at next year. Yet, at 1993, because of Akari father's job, she went to different junior school with Takaki.
The first winter season came since Takaki and Akari went to junior high. They still will write letters to each other. But they want to meet each other so desperately. So they promised to meet at a station. Yet, at that day, the weather suddenly snowing heavily, the train stopped at the half way. Takaki watched at his watch, the time he and Akaki arranged to meet were already passed for few hours. The trained finally arrived at that station. With hopeless mood, Takaki got off the train, he thought Akari must already gone. But when he looked inside the station, there was no one except for a girl, sit next to heater, which was Akari......
✿Second Segment- Cosmonaut
Kanae Sumida, a high school student in Tanegashima. Since the first day Takaki transfered the school, she had crush on him. More days passed, she and Takaki became friends, but she couldn't dare to tell him her feeling. Very often she saw Takaki was sending texts to someone. But his face was look so sad and lonely. She hope one day that person could be her.
When Kanae was a senior, teacher asked them to decide what they want to do in future. She heard Takaki was going to apply for the college at Tokyo. This time, she wanted to tell what she feel for him for such a long time......
✿ Third segment- 5 Centimeters per Second
Since graduated from college, Takaki went back to Tokyo to work. He didn't why he went back to this place and what he tried to search for. He felt being bounded for a long time, since that day he separated with Akari. Now he still couldn't get rid of this feeling.
He couldn't see her but he also couldn't forget her. Even he have dated with a girl for three years, in his heart, he couldn't love anyone else except for Akari. For such a long time, he just waiting. Wait for the day that he and Akari would meet again.
5 Centimeters per second is the speed of Cherry blossom falling. He walked on the street that he used to walk with Akari and saw the Cherry Blossom again. He thought if possible to turn back time, no matter how hard he would try his best to meet Akari again.
